{bl. jp ii loves us, ladies}

Thank you, women who are mothers! You have sheltered human beings
within yourselves in a unique experience of joy and travail.
This experience makes you become God's own smile upon the newborn child,
the one who guides your child's first steps, who helps it to grow,
and who is the anchor as the child makes its way along the journey of life.

This is beautiful. That is all.
(Well... maybe I have a little bit more to say)
As I sit here late at night after a day of caring for an increasingly energetic little boy
I read JPII's words and he puts my vocation as a mother into graceful terms.
Joy? Yes, indeed.
Travail? You bet ya!
I too often ask myself:
How does this little person's most basic needs require so much of my own energy?
Feeding. Changing. Playing. Sleeping.
Feeding. Changing. Playing. Sleeping.
 Feeding. Changing. Playing. Sleeping.
Sounds easy, doesn't it? For some reason its so demanding.
It results in exhaustion. I can't even see straight right now.
But you know what?
Jacob smiles when he sees me and puts his arms out for me to hold him.
Sure its tiring.
But I feel such happiness inside to have this little boy be mine.
So Happy that I can't help but smile.
God's smile, says JPII.

 Happy Tuesday!
