{created to love}

We must know that we have been created for greater things,
not just to be a number in the world,
not just to go for diplomas and degrees,
this work and that work.
We have been created in order to love and to be loved.
-Mother Teresa

Blessed Mother Teresa has a way of simplifying things, doesn't she?
I find it frustrating sometimes. "Why can't I see things her way?" I'll ask God.
Life would be much easier if I could have her outlook

It wasn't until after Mother's death that news broke of a crisis of faith that she struggled.
For decades she experienced spiritual dryness. Darkness. Emptiness.
"As for me, the silence and the emptiness is so great, that I look and do not see,
— Listen and do not hear — the tongue moves [in prayer] but does not speak .."
she wrote in a letter to her confessor, Rev. Michael van der Peet.
The rejection she felt was so immense that I can only imagine
it would have led the common person to give up.
Yet she continued to love, and love, and love the poorest of the poor.

So her simple way of seeing things was not so simple after all.
I forget that way too often.
I need to remember that when life gets tough
and it seems there is not a reward in sight for the hard work,
I've just gotta keep my head up and do as He wants.
PS: The article in Time magazine is a good introduction
but Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light is even better.
