{ dear hoarding } a thank you letter

i want to thank you for playing such an important role in my life.

ours is an unlikely relationship, but i am so thankful that it's come to be.

most of the time i'm not even sure why choose to watch your program.
when i read the descriptions on the ondemand menu,
i consciously select the episode of yours that sounds the grossest.
the nastier the better.
...and they're all pretty nasty.
what is wrong with me?
for an hour, i am bound to my seat
in amusement and pity, too, for the people that suffer from this illness.

then my mind wanders.
how did they get there?
they didn't just have all that crap in their house.
(unfortunately, sometimes that's a literal statement)

that question is how our relationship has borne the most fruit.

you drive me to purge my home. often.

to dive into my closets
(and the cabinets, and the drawers, and essentially everywhere)
to chuck things into bins categorized into garbage, giveaway, donate, keep.
you drive me to schedule donation pick ups.
you drive me to find new owners for so many things...
things i just don't use but should be used and not only stored.

i do this all because of a deep fear of becoming one of the people featured on your show.

if it wasn't for you, the little order and organization in my home would be nonexistent.
and for that, i thank you from the bottom of my heart.

ps: this is what is currently going on in my bedroom... all because of you. thanks again!

I love this!! I find myself glued to that show often. I need to watch it again. It is excellent motivation for purging my home. I never want to become a candidate for a potential episode! Sad to see people winding up in that situation though.

nothing motivates a little organization like a good episode of hoarders :)

Esther, this is truly an incredibly post. I, too, watch Hoarders...and am always amazed by it. Their stories sadden me - but it all "makes sense" I love the photo you posted, too!! SO TRUE. I need this as a reminder sometimes...actually, a lot. :-X

ANYWAYS - your little side of the blogosphere is just precious...I'm following you now :) I look forward to reading more posts & getting to know you!

Thanks for linking up to First Day of My Life's Thankful Thursday!! <3 Hope to see you next week!

Have an amazing weekend!!

ahh, another hoarder lover? i love hoarders and i'll watch hoarding: buried alive, but i don't like it quite as well. did you see the episode where the man had his girlfriend come to help (he was married) and all of their dirty laundry (it was pretty dirty) was aired for america to see? i was totally and completely mortified for all of them.

usually after i finish an episode i'll get up and start to clean. my husband however, refuses to even look at it. he says it's disgusting and leaves. it's so intriguing; don't you think?

good luck on your bedroom!

I can barely bear to watch that show, lol. but there was one with a woman from our community and I watched that one in utter fascination!

we have been very motivated to get rid of as much stuff as possible and what we have done so far feels AWESOME. I can't wait until we have made it through everything =) looks like you're making good progress!
