what aliceforgot was blogher book club's most recent pick.
it was intriguing and interesting... and a little bit scary
to me.
the book tells the story of alice after she has taken a serious fall at
the gym.
the accident caused her to lose a bit of her memory… TEN
YEARS OF IT.
as far as she’s concerned she’s in love with her husband, pregnant
with their first daughter,
and blissfully happy with her life.
at the hospital she comes to realize that she’s actually in the middle of a
divorce,
she has birthed three children, people around her have changed, and
relationships are pretty sad.
she’s wealthy and living in her dream home but pretty
miserable.
the concept was so interesting that my husband and i
stayed up late talking about it the other night.
what would happen if we forgot ten years of our life?
the biggest milestones have happened in that time.
it would be so depressing.
and that’s how Alice
felt and I could totally (hypothetically) empathize with her.
what scares me the most is the realization of how much
things can change in just ten years.
funny enough, yesterday was the fifth anniversary since I graduated
high school.
in just five years I’ve bought a house, gotten married,
traveled
places, had a kid, and gotten pregnant with a second one.
if you had told me this five years ago that this is
what i would be doing today,
i’d laugh in your face. “crazyness,” i would
think.
that’s just five years, imagine ten!
what would you do if you forgot ten years of your life?
would it be a blessing in disguise?
